BantSmart is a food scanning app for people following the Banting 2.0 lifestyle. In these terms, "BantSmart", "we" and "us" mean the team behind the app. The beta is a closed test, open only to people we invite, and it runs before the app is released to the public.
1. Keep the beta confidential
The beta app and anything we share with you about it are confidential until BantSmart is publicly launched.
- Please don't share the app, your invite link or your tester access with anyone else.
- Please don't post screenshots, screen recordings or descriptions of how the app works in public, including social media and Facebook groups, without our permission.
- You're welcome to tell people you're testing a banting app. If someone wants to join, send them to us instead of passing on your link.
This section no longer applies to anything we make public ourselves.
2. Don't copy the app
BantSmart, including its design, code, food database, verdict system and brand, belongs to us. You may use the beta for testing only. You may not:
- Copy, change or redistribute the app or any part of it.
- Try to take the app apart, extract its files or data, or work out how its verdicts are calculated.
- Use the app, its data or anything you learn while testing to build, help build or advise on a similar product.
- Use the beta for anything other than your own personal use, for example with clients, customers or a group you run.
3. Your feedback
Your feedback is the reason for the beta, so thank you in advance. When you send us bug reports, ideas or suggestions, you agree that we can use them to improve BantSmart, without paying you and without needing your further permission. We won't publish your name with your feedback unless you say we can.
4. The app is unfinished, and it isn't medical advice
The beta is still being tested, so some verdicts will be wrong and some features may break or change. Please don't rely on it alone for decisions about your health.
BantSmart gives general information about foods based on the Banting 2.0 lists. It is not medical or dietary advice. If you have a medical condition, take medication or are pregnant, speak to your doctor or dietitian before changing how you eat.
The beta is provided as it is, and we're not responsible for any loss that comes from using it, to the extent the law allows.
5. Your information
During the beta we collect your account details (your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google), the photos you scan, which are saved with your scan history, your food logs and phase progress, app usage and crash reports, and anything you send through the feedback form, including screenshots.
We use this only to run the app, fix problems and improve BantSmart. We don't sell it or share it with advertisers, and we only share it with trusted service providers who help us run the app. We handle it in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and our privacy policy explains the details. You can delete your account and your data at any time, right in the app, or email us to do it for you.
6. Leaving, changes and contact
You can leave the beta at any time by leaving the tester group and uninstalling the app. If you also want your data removed, delete your account in the app first. We can also end the beta, or remove a tester who breaks these terms, at any time. Section 1 still applies after you leave, until BantSmart is publicly launched. Section 2 continues to apply after that.
We may update these terms during the beta and will let testers know when we do. These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
